In the past couple weeks, the Walt Statue Project asked Marceline residents to share their thoughts on a location for the Walt statue. The overwhelming and obvious response was in Ripley Square, as it’s right on Main Street USA, highly visible, and free to the public. Here’s the summary results of that survey:
- 79% named Ripley Square or a specific location within the park.
- Supportive comments emphasized Main Street visibility, a central focal point, adding to Marceline’s Disney experience, and the visibility and security of the monument.
- Other suggestions included the Marceline Public Pool or Walt Disney Park at the far-end of town, as well as being in front of the Zurcher building.
- A couple of citizens who had not read the project plan responded that the town has higher priorities, but obviously did not understand that no City funds would be needed for this tribute to Walt Disney.
As we do more to share this project with Marceline residents, we are also working to allay the concerns of a couple of City Council members that the City can accept the gift without being sued by the Disney Company.
This project is just beginning and there’s a lot of work ahead. If you’re interested in helping to promote the project, start by sharing our social posts, and telling other Walt Disney fans of the project.
